The Corona Del Sol Aztecz opened their preseason at the Adam Donnenfield Tournament with high expectations after capturing the 2025 6A State Championship and setting their sights on a back to back title run.
The tournament began with a narrow 5-6 loss against Chaparral. Despite a competitive effort, the Aztecs came up just short in a game that exposed a few early season mistakes.
From there, Corona del Sol responded in dominant fashion. They overwhelmed Horizon 12-2, exploding offensively and controlling the game from start to finish. The momentum continued with a hard fought 5 to 4 win over Vista Grande, showing poise in late game situations. The Aztecs then closed the tournament strong with another tight 5-4 victory against Canyon Del Oro.
The bounce back success at the Adam Donnenfield Tournament not only gave the Aztecs momentum heading into the regular season but also renewed confidence for a potential repeat run. With last year’s state title in hand and a deep roster returning, Corona del Sol looks poised to compete for back to back championships and continue setting a high standard for 6A baseball in Arizona.
After dropping the opener, the Aztecs rallied to finish 3-1 overall. Across four games, they scored 26 total runs while allowing just 15, demonstrating balance on both sides of the ball. With a championship pedigree and resilience already on display, Corona del Sol looks prepared to defend its title and make another serious run at the 6A crown.
